New Science Associates was a small tech-trends analysis firm that was born in 1985, when three Gartner Group executives couldn't convince Gideon Gartner to launch a research service around the burgeoning field of Artificial Intelligence (he had recently been burned by a service on videotex; AI was having a rebirth). He fired them, and they convened in one of their kitchens to start New Science.

By 1992, New Science had grown to seven research services and around 70 staff. The services, in launch order, were:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Advanced Software Development (ASD)

  • Intelligent Document Management (IDM)

  • Advanced Network Computing (ANC)

  • Operations and Systems Management (OSM)

  • Continuous Information Environments (CIE)

Ironically, Gartner then bought it.

Too many small firms that did great work have vanished from view. This is a legacy site for a little company that once was.

New Science alumni are a bit difficult to find online. We have a private Facebook group, but it's, well, private. And not many of us have connected properly to the New Science org page on LinkedIn.

Our research was about to slip from public view, but now you can read some of it (building slowly), here:
